She stared at him. He had never really grown up. Were they all like that, these men who grabbed power, who wrecked whole countrysides, who sent other men flying all over the world?

Just wanted to mention [and this is a bit of a spoiler] that those who have only seen the film, may not enjoy the very different ending of the novel. It's quite sad: not tied up with pretty ribbons.
